Many of you approach me with different questions before a painting project. I collected the most frequently asked questions as a resource for you to refer to as you make the necessary preparations for your project.
Considering that I paint one room at a time, can I empty the rooms one by one during the project?
For many of my clients, the biggest problem is that they have nowhere to move during their painting project. Therefore, we suggest moving room by room.
A painting project does not only consist of a professional painter putting some paint on your walls, but it involves careful preparation. First, we prepare the area by putting surface protection tape and plastic protective covers where necessary. This is a time-consuming task, but it must be done so that paint does not get where it doesn’t belong, such as on wooden floors, doors, furniture, or on carpet. Covering the working area with protective materials also ensures that we don’t take any dirt from one room to another. After protection, we must correct the surface of the walls by patching holes and sanding the area. Finally, after all the prep work, we bring out the paint.
Take your time to choose the right color!
You have until the end of the preparation to decide on the color. We are always here to help you with the selection. Many advertisements show a handsome, suntanned guy in swim shorts with prefect hair standing in front of a half-finished wall with sparkling clean wooden floors under his feet. Sorry to burst any bubbles, this is not reality. The guy may exist, but truth be told, the floor and the walls all need to be covered in advance to protect from dirt, paint, and possible damage. In addition, the doors, windows, built-in cabinets, lamps, switches, and outlets all need to be covered.
If someone is trying to convince you that a painting project can be done in the blink of an eye without these necessary preparations, it should raise some suspicion. Otherwise, you’ll need to stock up on some cleaning products after the painter leaves because you will be scrubbing all night long.
But back to the original problem, if you cannot move out and must move your furniture and belongings back and forth, you will have some preparation work to do as well.
Can the Cat stay? He is only sleeping.
Unfortunately, the family pet will not be allowed in the working area. Not only is dyed hair for pets not stylish nowadays, having pets in the vicinity is a safety concern. It is highly dangerous if a small pet is running around a ladder in use. We suggest temporarily separating your pet from the working area.
I cannot decide on the color!
We have to say, in our opinion, the most beautiful wall color is pure white. It goes well with every style and if you happen to change the colors of your furniture in your home, you won’t have to worry about matching it with your walls.
However, if you decide to go with a colored wall, you should know that we use high quality, washable paint. You won’t have to worry about your children’s palm prints or an accidentally spilled drink because they can be quickly washed away.
You choose, you are the expert of your own space! We can only suggest some stylish colors, but we can’t know for sure the perfect color for you. Choose your style and we will help you make the final decision!
Timing your painting project
We try to fulfill every request, but we cannot cancel any existing orders without a serious reason. We sometimes find with older homes that upon removing the wallpaper, parts of the wall become loose. You could say the wallpaper “held the house together”. When this occurs, a more serious remodeling project is needed, and this may extend the project by a couple of days.
Nevertheless, we can assure you that you will be very happy with the results. Please see the photos from our previous clients. If you have any further questions or if you need advice, feel free to call me. I will gladly answer all your questions.
Best regards, Peter
